Patchwork e bordado (Patchwork and embroidery)

My nine patch is going on. As I said before it is not a very ambicious project but I'm found of it because its bright vernal colours

Today I want to show something different. This is a typical embroidery from Castelo Branco.
It was made by my mother in law some years ago. She learned this technic when she was a child and in her youth she became master and teacher of this embroidery at Tavares Proença museum in Castelo Branco.

It is made with silk thread on linen. Some of the typical motifs used on this kind of embroidery are birds, carnations (representing the man) and roses (representing the woman).

Those are the MOST beautiful embroideries I have ever seen. I love them! You asked on another blog about getting blocks to "stick" on the wall? I used felt or just plain batting on the wall over a styroform backing. Some of my friends just use the flannel side of an inexpensive tablecloth, too

I love the bright pastels with the pure red and strong aqua blue in your quilt. The blocks set on point make it even more lively.

I cannot imagine a better combination of fabrics for the sashings between you teapot blocks.

Your mother's-in-law embroidery is stunning. Thank you for sharing it.

I love how those colors in the nine-patch are really cheerful without being too bright. I mean, they're sort of understated, but it makes you happy to look at them.

Thanks for showing us the embroidery. It's absolutely gorgeous. I love the slightly folk style as well as the execution. Wow!
