I hope you all have a safe and happy New Year's Eve and a great start on 2009. Thanks for visiting my blog and share with me my crafty thoughts and pictures in 2008. See you on 2009!
Cushions are one of my favorite gifts. They are useful, cozy and easy to make. This time I made a couple of cushions from an old traditional block, the square in a square. I love the geometry of this block. It can be done with only two squares or with a succession of little matryoshkas squares that go on and on, disappearing from our sight.
Each cushion has its own style and these ones needed these big copper mother-of-pearl buttons. Christmas is almost here, time is short, and I couldn´t resist to make the button holes by machine.
The second edition of the Spring Fling Round Robin is finished and here it is the beautiful quilt I got this time. It was made by Wendy (center block) Dorian (first border), Valerie (second border) and Lisa (quilting, binding and label). I must thank these four ladies for the wonderful work they have done on this quilt. Once again our swap hostess Margaret did a great job providing continuously very organized information. Thanks Margaret!
Obrigada Margaret!
A month before Christmas, time is short for big projects. Yet, small things can be finished on time. As I promised before this is another small project that can be done very quickly. This is a round shape fabric box made with no Christmassy fabrics but the jingle bells get the mood.
Turning it upside down to show the bottom detail I discover that it can also be used as a crown.
Nowadays, most of the times I use specific threads for hand quilting. Nevertheless I still prepare my beeswax, from time to time. Of course I could buy it but I have lots of fun preparing the wax from the honeycomb. I consider this a good method to strengthen the thread and I use it for those unspecified threads with beautiful colors.
I have been participating on the second edition of the Spring Fling Round Robin. This time the rules changed a bit and we can´t show the quilts until it is received. But a sneak peek is allowed. On this quilt I only made the quilting the binding and sew the label. I show it from on the backing and a tiny window on the top for you to see the lovely colors chosen by the other quilters that made the 1st, 2nd and 3rd round.
It has been a long time since my last post. Too much work, a few family problems and when I realize two months have passed without blogging. I am very thankful to all my visitors for the nice comments they left as well as for the nice e-mails I received.
Autumn is almost here and when I think in a maple leaf block I always associate it with this beautiful season. Most of times maple leaves can be seen in rich earth colors preparing us for the coziness of home when cold days arrive.
Some days ago I received the PIF gift I assigned last December. It was send by May Britt from Norway who stitched a lovely quote on this thread bag. She also sent a coordinated sand pincushion attached to the thread bag. It is very practical and it is already set on my sewing machine table. Thank you May Britt.
I received the award Kreativ Blogger, from the quilter and designer Berglind, in Iceland, and I now I have to nominate 5 creative bloggers to receive the award. Though task indeed!
Here they are:
My last photos are a shame for me. I decided to move my sewing room to another division of my home and I lived the past few days in chaos. And I confess she didn´t help very much.

This one I was finished some days ago and was made for my hand quilting classes. It has some of the most common quilting patterns (grids, cables and feathered wreaths) and I made it in a buttery color to rest my eyes and fully enjoy the quilt making.
